The long weekends 2027 Canada shares nationwide are just three: New Year’s Day, Good Friday and Labour Day. Each province and territory then adds its own, so most Canadians get five to seven long weekends in 2027, depending on where they live. Newfoundland and Labrador has the fewest, with three.
Canada sets most public holidays by province, which is why a national list is short. The sections below show the national picture first, then the detail for British Columbia and Quebec and the Monday holidays province by province.
Long weekends 2027 Canada shares nationwide
These are the breaks made by holidays that every province and territory observes:
| Days off | Length | Holiday |
|---|---|---|
| Friday, January 1 to Sunday, January 3 | 3 days | New Year’s Day |
| Friday, March 26 to Sunday, March 28 | 3 days | Good Friday |
| Saturday, September 4 to Monday, September 6 | 3 days | Labour Day |
Canada Day isn’t in the national list for two reasons: Newfoundland and Labrador marks July 1 as Memorial Day, and in 2027 it falls on a Thursday, so it doesn’t make a long weekend anyway. Christmas Day falls on a Saturday and Boxing Day on a Sunday. Provinces handle holidays on a non-working day in different ways, some with a substitute day off and some with holiday pay, so check your province’s rules and your employer before counting on Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December.

Monday holidays in 2027 by province
Most of the extra long weekends come from four Monday holidays. This table shows which apply where:
| Date | Holiday | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Monday, February 15 | Family Day | Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Ontario, Saskatchewan |
| Monday, February 15 | Louis Riel Day, Heritage Day, Islander Day | Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island |
| Monday, May 24 | Victoria Day | Every province and territory except Quebec and the Atlantic provinces |
| Monday, May 24 | National Patriots’ Day | Quebec |
| Monday, August 2 | BC Day, New Brunswick Day, Saskatchewan Day, Civic Holiday | BC, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Nunavut |
| Monday, October 11 | Thanksgiving | Every province and territory except New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI and Newfoundland and Labrador |
Ontario’s Civic Holiday on the first Monday of August is not a statutory holiday there, though many employers give it. Yukon’s August holiday is Discovery Day, on Monday, August 16. In the Northwest Territories and Yukon, National Indigenous Peoples Day is Monday, June 21, which makes one more long weekend.

Long weekends in British Columbia in 2027
British Columbia has seven long weekends in 2027, more than most provinces, thanks to Family Day in February and BC Day in August.
| Days off | Length | Holiday |
|---|---|---|
| Friday, January 1 to Sunday, January 3 | 3 days | New Year’s Day |
| Saturday, February 13 to Monday, February 15 | 3 days | Family Day |
| Friday, March 26 to Sunday, March 28 | 3 days | Good Friday |
| Saturday, May 22 to Monday, May 24 | 3 days | Victoria Day |
| Saturday, July 31 to Monday, August 2 | 3 days | British Columbia Day |
| Saturday, September 4 to Monday, September 6 | 3 days | Labour Day |
| Saturday, October 9 to Monday, October 11 | 3 days | Thanksgiving |
Remembrance Day (Thursday, November 11) and Canada Day are both on a Thursday, so each becomes a four-day weekend with one day of leave on the Friday after.

Long weekends in Quebec in 2027
Quebec has its own calendar: no Family Day or Victoria Day, but National Patriots’ Day on the same Monday in May and the Fête nationale in June.
| Days off | Length | Holiday |
|---|---|---|
| Friday, January 1 to Sunday, January 3 | 3 days | New Year’s Day |
| Friday, March 26 to Sunday, March 28 | 3 days | Good Friday |
| Saturday, May 22 to Monday, May 24 | 3 days | National Patriots’ Day |
| Saturday, September 4 to Monday, September 6 | 3 days | Labour Day |
| Saturday, October 9 to Monday, October 11 | 3 days | Thanksgiving |
The Fête nationale is on Thursday, June 24 and Canada Day a week later on a Thursday too, so taking Friday, June 25 and Friday, July 2 off gives two four-day weekends in a row. At Easter, Quebec employers give Good Friday or Easter Monday, at the employer’s choice.

The best bridge days in 2027
Thursday holidays are the best value in 2027, because a single day of leave turns them into four days off:
- Canada Day, Thursday, July 1: take Friday, July 2 for July 1 to 4.
- Fête nationale (Quebec), Thursday, June 24: take Friday, June 25 for June 24 to 27.
- Remembrance Day, Thursday, November 11, where it is a holiday: take Friday, November 12 for November 11 to 14.
September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, is a holiday for federal employees and federally regulated workplaces and in some provinces and territories. In 2027 it is also a Thursday, so Friday, October 1 makes another four-day break where it applies.

Thanksgiving gets its own post: when Thanksgiving is in 2027 covers the Canadian date on the second Monday of October and the US date in November.
Planning long weekends with a family
Long weekends are often when the household jobs pile up or finally get done. If you are planning a long weekend at home, a shared list of who does what keeps it from turning into one person’s project; the guide to age-appropriate chores has ideas for children from 3 to 12, and the printable chore chart puts them on the fridge.
School breaks don’t always line up with the holidays. March break and the winter holidays are set by each province and school board, so put both on the same calendar before booking travel.

Long weekends in other countries
If you work with teams abroad, their days off fall on different dates. The UK’s Easter weekend is four days and its August bank holiday is at the end of the month rather than the start; see the UK bank holiday weekends in 2027 for every date.

Print a 2027 calendar with Canadian holidays
The 2027 Canada calendar maker lets you pick your province or territory and prints its statutory holidays on every month, so the long weekends are easy to spot and plan around.

Frequently asked questions
How many long weekends are there in Canada in 2027?
Three are shared by every province and territory: New Year’s Day, Good Friday and Labour Day. Most provinces and territories add two to four more, such as Family Day, Victoria Day, an August civic holiday and Thanksgiving.
When is Victoria Day 2027?
Monday, May 24, 2027, giving a long weekend from Saturday, May 22 in the provinces and territories that observe it. Quebec marks National Patriots’ Day on the same Monday.
Is Canada Day 2027 a long weekend?
Not on its own. July 1, 2027 is a Thursday, so taking Friday, July 2 off gives a four-day weekend from Thursday, July 1 to Sunday, July 4.
When is Family Day 2027?
Monday, February 15, 2027 in Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Ontario and Saskatchewan. Manitoba (Louis Riel Day), Nova Scotia (Heritage Day) and Prince Edward Island (Islander Day) have a holiday on the same Monday.
When is Thanksgiving in Canada in 2027?
Monday, October 11, 2027, the second Monday of October. It is a statutory holiday in most provinces but optional in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador.
Why does the national count leave out Canada Day and Victoria Day?
The national count only includes holidays every province and territory shares. Victoria Day is not a holiday in Quebec or the Atlantic provinces, and Newfoundland and Labrador marks July 1 as Memorial Day.
